Fallon confirms he will seek re-election to council in Roscommon as Independent

South Roscommon councillor Laurence Fallon has today (Thursday) confirmed he will seek re-election to the local authority in June as an Independent candidate.

"I have been an Independent councillor since 2011 when I made the decision to stand with the people of Roscommon over the downgrading of Roscommon Hospital and to resign from Fine Gael," said Cllr Fallon.

"Since then, I have continued to represent the area as an Independent councillor and I will be contesting this year's council elections as an Independent candidate once again."

Cllr Fallon resigned from Fine Gael in 2011 following the decision to close the A&E Department at Roscommon hospital despite a commitment to keep the unit open.

"I am proud to represent the Athlone Electoral Area as an Independent councillor and I have a proven track record of standing by the people of Roscommon and fighting for health services locally.

"If re-elected to Roscommon County Council, I will continue to represent, and work for, the community," he stated.

Cllr Fallon lives at Ballagh, Knockroghery, close to Lough Funshinagh, and he said addressing the ongoing flooding crisis there remained one of his key priorities.

"I remain committed to working to find a solution to the Lough Funshinagh situation. This is a campaign that I have been spearheading for the last five years and I intend to continue to work to find a solution."

Cllr Fallon was first elected to the local authority in 2009, and secured re-election in 2014 and 2019.
