Successful 6K road race in Coosan

The Athlone Croí na hÉireann festival first ever 6K road race took place in ideal weather conditions on Sunday morning, February 11 from the grounds of the Bounty, doing a loop of the Coosan area and back to the Bounty.

The committee is thankful to Paschal Dillon and Tom Silke for the use of the excellent facilities at the Bounty, Martina Connell of Athlone Athletics Club for her guidance, HB Safety Services for the event sponsorship, the local Gardaí and the large number of voluntary safety stewards who ensured the safe and smooth running of the event. Gratitude was also extended to Mark Redmond Construction who sponsored the event.

Finally, a huge thank you to the many runners who took part and congratulations to winners. In the ladies race, the prize winners were as follows - 1st: Kate Kelly; 2nd: Deirdre Keena; and 3rd: Emer Gaffey.

The winners of the mens race were as follows 1st: Joshua Schnell; 2nd: David Watson; and 3rd: David Cuddy.

It is planned to build on this success and make this an annual event in the calendar year of athletics.
