Local piper is magazine cover star!
Athlone piper Liam Winnett graces the front page of the latest An Píobaire magazine, the national publication circulated by Na Píobairí Uilleann or the Society of Pipers.
The popular local musician is the cover star of the February edition of the magazine, which is circulated to all members of the organisation.
Founded in 1968 when there were less than 100 uilleann pipers remaining, today Na Píobairí Uilleann (NPU) is a thriving arts organisation dedicated to preserving and expanding piping through education, tuition, helping musician access resources and releasing musical recordings to share the unique sound.
It has also helped to found a dedicated training centre – PipeCraft to deliver training in the very highly skilled craft of uilleann pipemaking.
The NPU is based in it restored Georgian headquarters in Henrietta Street, Dublin.
