Ice warning issued for Westmeath, Roscommon and other counties

Met Éireann has issued weather warnings for the coming hours, after parts of the Midlands and East were blanketed in snow overnight.

The arrival of March brought snowfall and wintry conditions which have been impacting on schools, sporting fixtures and some transport services.

A snow-ice warning for Westmeath and Roscommon expires at noon today (Friday), but Met Éireann has now issued another yellow-level ice warning for all of Ireland from 6pm tonight until 9am on Saturday.

The forecasting service said low temperatures would bring "ice on untreated surfaces, leading to hazardous travelling conditions".

The cold and unsettled weather is expected to continue throughout the weekend and into next week.
