Nugent named captain as Roscommon prepare to face Mayo
The Roscommon and Mayo teams have been named for the EirGrid Connacht Under-20 Football Championship opening round match this evening (Wednesday). Dr Hyde Park is the venue for the game (throw-in 5.30pm).
Bobby Nugent, who was part of the St Brigid's team which reached the All-Ireland club final earlier this year, is the Roscommon captain and he has been selected at full-forward.
Tommy Morris (St Aidan’s) has been selected at full-back, while Conor Ryan of Pádraig Pearses is at midfield alongside Oran's Shane Walsh.
The substitutes include Oisín O’Flaherty (Clann na nGael), Conor Morris (St Aidan’s) and Pearses duo Conor Harley and Adam McGreal.
The Roscommon team is managed by Coosan native Noel Dunning. A former manager of the London senior football team, Dunning has been involved with the St Aidan's club for a number of years.
This year's Connacht U-20 championship will be played on a league format with the team which finishes top going straight into the final, while the second and third placed teams will meet in one semi-final.
Roscommon will face reigning Connacht champions Sligo in the second round at Markievicz Park (Wednesday, March 27). After a bye in round three, the Rossies will meet Galway (home) and Leitrim (away) in their remaining games.
The Mayo team is managed by Peadar Gardiner and the captain is Sean Morahan, but the Castlebar Mitchels player is listed among the subs for the clash with Roscommon.
