Saturday's Athlone Film Festival "will be the biggest one yet"

The annual one-day Athlone Film Festival will kick-off the Fringe events for the RTÉ All Ireland Drama Festival on Saturday, and has been described as "the biggest one yet".

Organiser Dave Toolan explained that the day's events would be getting underway with a script and film-writing workshop, with award-winning screenplay writer Rachel Moloney, on Saturday, April 27, at 10am in the Aidan Heavey Library.

This will be followed by a filmmaker's networking event, in conjunction with the Westmeath Filmmakers Collective, at TUS in Athlone, starting with a reception from 1pm.

The film festival itself will be held in the Athlone IMC Cinema between 8pm and 10.30pm, and this year will feature seven short films, the highest number ever.

Dave added that there was a record number of entries from abroad this year, and the judging panel has also been expanded.

You can see the full line-up of films, and book tickets for the film festival for €10, on Eventbrite here.

The networking event in TUS is free and open to all, while the workshop can be booked here.
