Local students participate in World of Work programme

The class 2 Elm in Coláiste Chiaráin were chosen to take part in this year’s World of Work Programme which is run in partnership with Alkermes and Business in the Community Ireland (BITCI).

The programme was delivered over four sessions where the students were provided with an insight into the World of Work through a Company Overview, a Teamwork Skills session, a Site Visit to Alkermes and a Sustainability session.

The Meet and Greet session took place on February 8. Gail from BITCI delivered a PowerPoint presentation to the students. Session 2 was held on February 22. Clare and Anthony from Alkermes delivered a very informative Company Overview and Teamwork Skills session and this was followed by a Site Visit to Alkermes on March 21.

Students got the opportunity to meet with employees from a variety of departments throughout the company. The employees outlined their role in Alkermes and their educational/employment history to date. The students really enjoyed this session as they had the opportunity to interact and ask the employees questions in relation to their career paths.

The Sustainability session took place on March 13. Gail from BITCI delivered a workshop which focused on the importance of living sustainably and highlighted how dedicated organisations are to ensuring they are sustainable. The final session took place on April 18 where 2 Elm took part in a final wrap-up session.

A selection of students spoke about their experiences throughout the World of Work Programme. This gave them the opportunity to put the skills they learned into practice. Well done to class speakers Joseph Daly, Aslan Sadiqi, Evan Walsh, Vicky Rytal, Thomas Jordan and Daniel Gaffey.
