Tang and Ballymore clubs to host Darkness into Light walks

Tang GAA and Ballymore GAA clubs will both host Darkness into Light walks this year in conjunction with Pieta.

Both events will take place next Saturday, May 11 in common with events all across Ireland and beyond.

The Tang GAA event will take place at the club's pitch, Joe Fox Memorial Park, on May 11 from 4.15am.

In an online post, Tang GAA said there are three ways that people can get involved with their event and donate to Pieta. People can donate to the fundraising page here - the link is posted on the club's social media channels. Also, you can register for any official walk and take part in the Tang GAA event, and the club will have a collection bucket on the morning should people prefer to donate this way.

"Support Pieta and people affected by suicide and self-harm. Every donation makes a difference to someone in crisis," Tang GAA posted online.

The Ballymore group will gather on High Street in the village at 3.45am for a 4.15am start. The 5km walk will be from High Street to Fr Dalton Park and back. Ballymore GAA and sister club Fr Dalton's Hurling Club are jointly organising and promoting the event; and people can donate here.

Although the events in Tang and Ballymore are not official Darkness into Light walks, both clubs are giving local communities a chance to take part in an important fundraising initiative that means so much to many people.

The two official Darkness into Light in events in Westmeath will be held at Athlone Town Stadium and at St Loman's, Mullingar GAA grounds (Home Instead Lakepoint Park, Mullingar).

The annual Darkness into Light event raises vital funds for Pieta’s lifesaving support services for those in suicidal distress and those who have been bereaved through suicide.
