Castledaly Kean HH topped the sale at €4,700 with exhibitor Noel Farrell, Purchaser Nigel Heatrick, exhibitor Hugh P Murray and breeder Michael Farrell.

Local breeder tops Nenagh Hereford Show & Sale list

The annual Hereford Show & Sale was held in Central Auctions Nenagh on Thursday last.

Though a slow start to the sale – the prices remained steady throughout. The average price of the sale was €3,000 and 24 of 40 bulls presented for sale were sold on the day.

Michael Farrell from Westmeath topped the sale at €4,700 with his second entry, Castledaly Kean HH. This January 2023 bull was sired by Conmelvin Ollie and bred from a Haven Kingpin dam. He is a five-star Replacement bull and won his class during the show before being purchased by Hereford breeder Nigel Heatrick, Glaslough Herefords, Monaghan.

Michael Farrell also sold his first entry into the sale; Lot 36 – Castledaly Orchard. Another Conmelvin Ollie son – Orchard was bred from a Steil Gerard dam. Orchard has four stars for both the Replacement and the Terminal Index, +10.6kgs for Carcass Weight, five stars for Carcass Conformation and +6.3kgs for Milk. This horned bull was purchased by Hereford breeder; Tom Brennan of Balleen Herefords, Kilkenny for €2,900.
