Staff of Athlone shop celebrate sale of €250,000 lottery ticket

The balloons were out at Mulligan's Londis shop and post office on the Roscommon Road in Athlone this week, as its staff celebrated the sale of a lottery ticket worth a quarter of a million euro.

The winning Quick Pick ticket was sold on Saturday last and the lucky purchaser scooped the top prize of €250,000 in that evening's Lotto Plus 2 draw.

A National Lottery spokesperson said the ticket holder had come forward and arrangements were being made for them to collect their winnings.

The owner of the Londis shop, Martin Mulligan, was delighted to hear that one of his customers had spent the Bank Holiday weekend celebrating a big win.

"You know what they say, Lotto is a game of chance, and now for one of our customers it's certainly paid off," he said.

"There is already a great buzz amongst our staff, and the wider community are certain to be excited as we're a busy store here in Athlone.

"We have a post office and a filling station so it's a real mix of locals and people passing through the town that we have popping into us every day.

"I am sure the celebrations in-store will bring even more attention to the win, but we are glad to hear that the winner has already checked their ticket and made contact.

"It's great to get such good news from the weekend – let's hope for even more to come!" said Martin.
