Coosan ladies take the dip for UNICEF

By Rebekah O'Reilly

A group of Athlone ladies is set to complete 12 dips in Coosan Point this December in aid of UNICEF.

The challenge comes as part of a fundraiser which has already raised a total of €1,545 from some 49 donations as of December 16.

"We started three years ago - it's a nice thing to do to get out during the winter when maybe you don't want to!" said group member Louise Galligan. "It's good for the mind."

Louise said the group consists of nine women, including both experienced dippers, newbies, and a 72-year-old woman who is joining the group for her second year.

"We have people who just joined us this year - it's brilliant to have those new faces."

The group chooses a charity that is close to its hearts every year, and this year members have chosen to donate funds to UNICEF.

"With everything going on in Gaza, we wanted to pick something that would make a difference on the ground. There are children living alone in tents with no food - and the next issue in Gaza is famine."
