TUS opens office in Kenya
The Technological University of the Shannon (TUS) has opened a base in East Africa, saying this will allow prospective students learn about the educational possibilities available on the college's campuses in the Irish Midlands and Midwest.
The opening of an office in Nairobi, Kenya, extends the university's international presence which already includes offices in Nigeria, India, Mexico, Malaysia, Dubai and China.
TUS first established an Africa base with the launch of its office in Lagos, Nigeria, in May 2023.
In a statement, the local university said: "Each office supported by TUS Global is dedicated to supporting students, agents and partners with on-the-ground guidance and connection.
"The in-country offices provide personalised, on-the-ground support to students considering higher education in Ireland, offering clear guidance on course options, application procedures, visa processes, and pre-departure preparation."
At an event in Nairobi on March 18, the office was launched by the Ambassador of Ireland to Kenya, Her Excellency Caitríona Ingoldsby, who in her speech highlighted the shared vision of educational cooperation between Ireland and East Africa.
Ambassador Ingoldsby said: "This launch is more than the opening of an office—it's the strengthening of a bridge between Ireland and East Africa, built on shared values and a belief in the power of education to shape futures.
"We are proud to see Technological University of the Shannon deepening its presence here, and we look forward to the many success stories that will emerge from this collaboration."
The event was also attended by Donnacha McNamara, Vice President of Internationalisation and Alumni at TUS, who reaffirmed the university's commitment to global engagement.
Mr McNamara said: "At TUS, we see internationalisation not just as a strategy but as a shared journey with our students, partners, and communities across the world.
"Our growing presence in East Africa is part of a larger vision which is to create accessible, globally connected pathways to education, innovation, and opportunity.
"We believe in the power of education to transform lives and open doors. With over 15,000 students representing more than 100 nationalities, our campuses are vibrant, diverse, and internationally focused.
"We are incredibly proud of our vibrant East African student community, which includes students from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, and beyond. Their energy, talent and cultural diversity enrich our university, and we are committed to supporting their academic success."
