Moate-based rugby club granted permission for new facilities
Midland Warriors RFC has been granted planning permission for new facilities and a community walking track close to Moate.
The site comprises a greenfield site located within the townland of Bawnoges on the outskirts of Moate, close to exit 6 off the M6 motorway.
Outlined in the application for the new development are plans for two grass sport pitches, and an astro sports pitch with associated sports fencing.
Also included in plans are associated flood lighting, four changing rooms and both ladies’ and gents’ toilets, car parking facilities, a new road entrance, a perimeter walking track with associated external fitness equipment, pitch-side sports ball stop netting, and a new effluent treatment system and polishing filter.
The works require the demolition of an existing dilapidated agricultural shed. Permission was granted by Westmeath County Council subject to nine conditions.
News of the club’s plan to develop new facilities was first shared publicly in May of last year, as Midland Warriors sought to accommodate a significant rise in playing numbers.
Based in Moate, the club also draws players from surrounding areas including Mount Temple, Castledaly, Tubber, Ballycumber, Rosemount, Ballymore, Drumraney, Streamstown, Horseleap, Clara, and Kilbeggan.
