Athlone Chamber of Commerce has announced the appointment of Sophie Hunt as its new Festival and Events Co-ordinator.

This vital role, funded by Westmeath County Council, reflects the Chamber's commitment to enhancing the vibrancy and cultural life of Athlone through its festivals and events.

Sophie, who holds a BA in Outdoor Leisure, will work closely with volunteer committees across the region to provide essential support in organising festivals and events.

Her responsibilities will include assisting with grant applications, securing sponsorship, liaising with An Garda Síochána and advising on logistics, licensing and risk management. Sophie’s role aims to empower local communities and ensure their initiatives contribute meaningfully to the town's identity as a premier tourism destination.

Sophie Hunt is looking forward to providing support to the numerous festival and event's volunteer committees in the region.

"I am thrilled to have the opportunity to join Athlone Chamber of Commerce. My goal is to help these groups overcome challenges, access funding and create unforgettable experiences that showcase the best of what Athlone has to offer," Sophie said.

Chamber President Regina Bushell said the appointment of Sophie to the role marked the start of an exciting new chapter for Athlone.

"Her expertise and commitment to fostering collaboration will not only enhance our existing festivals and events, but also ensure that local organisers receive the support they need to thrive.
