Sheehan takes charge of Swansea on permanent basis

Alan Sheehan has been appointed as Swansea City's new head coach on a permanent basis.

The Athlone man's appointment was confirmed today (Wednesday) following a highly successful spell as caretaker head coach of the Welsh outfit.

Swansea City AFC said it was "delighted" to announce Sheehan's appointment as the club prepares to finish this season and make plans for the future.

Under Sheehan's guidance, Swansea have picked up an impressive 23 points out of a possible 36, including a remarkable run of five consecutive wins.

Sheehan, who initially took on the caretaker role after Luke Williams' departure in mid-February, has led Swansea City from 17th in the English Championship to a guaranteed top-half finish.

A native of Hillquarter, Coosan, Alan is a son of the late Anne and Michael Sheehan. Alan made over 400 appearances in English football as a player, representing several clubs in a varied career.

Sheehan has signed a three-year deal and his backroom staff will be finalised in due course as Swansea City prepares to conclude the season. The Swans will finish their campaign with a home game against Oxford United on Saturday, May 3, kick-off 12:30pm.

Swansea City director of football Richard Montague said: "We've been very impressed with Alan since he's taken over as caretaker head coach for a second time. It was important that we carried out a thorough and detailed process for appointing our new head coach.

"We had to get this decision right, and we are very happy with the work that’s been done and confident that we've picked the best head coach to take our club to the next level."

Swansea City CEO Tom Gorringe added: "Alan has shown strong leadership and tactical acumen during his time as caretaker head coach. Collectively, we believe he is the right person to take Swansea City forward and build on the progress that we've made towards the end of this season. We’re excited and optimistic about what we can achieve together."
