Local photography club to host exhibition

Midlands Photography Club is hosting its latest photography exhibition 'Seeing Through Photographs' as part of the All-Ireland Drama Fringe Festival until Sunday, May 18.

Through the power of photography the latest exhibition challenges our responses both intellectual and emotional. Questions come to mind such as: Who made the picture, why did they make the picture, who edited the picture, who cropped the picture, who captioned the picture, which pictures did they leave out, what pictures are being censored? One might stop for a moment and consider how many different ways you can make and use and understand any kind of image.

Midlands Photography Club was established in 2007 by a group of enthusiastic photographers who wanted to share their interest in photography with other similar minded people in the area. Over the years the club has grown from strength to strength attracting members not only from the Athlone area but also from the counties of Galway, Roscommon, Offaly and Longford.

The club is affiliated to the Irish Photographic Federation (IPF).

The current exhibition features work from many members from beginner to more experienced photographers.
