A spirit of "hope, kindness and collaboration" will continue to make a difference in the lives of the children supported at Primrose Lodge, the Terraglen Residential Care Service which hosted an Open Day to mark its official opening in Corbrack, Tang, last week.

Opened in 2023, Primrose Lodge supports children with disabilities between ages of six and 18. With a staff of 14, comprised of management, social care workers and support workers, Primrose Lodge provides 24-hour care to the service users living in their homes. Currently there are two children in residence at the modern Primrose Lodge property.

Centre Manager Helen Tooke, who has filled the role since 2023, praised the united approach of all those who work to ensure the support and care provided to the residents at Primrose Lodge is of the highest standard.

"Primrose Lodge is a welcoming environment, a 'home from home' for children of disability. As a team we are focused on developing the children's independent living skills in a personalised manner which they may not be able to do while living in their own homes. The children also work with local community support groups such as Infinity Friends and HUG Equine Assisted Learning to help with their development," Helen said.

Helen said that the staff at Primrose Lodge take a "person-centred" approach with their day-to-day activities, tailoring plans to meet the individual needs of the children living on site.

"Primrose Lodge stands as a beacon of inclusion, support and care. It is a space where every child’s individuality is embraced, and every family feels valued.

“This is a home built not just with bricks, but with purpose and unconditional kindness," Helen said.

With space to accommodate one more child at Primrose Lodge, Helen praised the residents' families "who work closely with our staff and continue to add valuable input".

"It’s this collective effort and dedication that has made Primrose lodge such a welcoming home for residents and their families to whom we also offer ongoing support," Helen said.

The conclusion of the Open Day saw the unveiling of a mounted piece of wood, locally sourced from Dysart-based business, FJK Woodwork and Woodturnings, bearing the name of the residence, Primrose Lodge, Helen performing the ceremonial duty.

"This unveiling of our Primrose Lodge sign is more than just a moment of ceremony. It is a powerful reminder of our commitment to building brighter futures for children with disabilities and their families," Helen concluded.
