Larissa 'excited but nervous' as Eurovision week opens
“If you have friends or relatives abroad, ask them to vote for us!” is the plea of Kilbeggan-based songwriter, Larissa Tormey, as she heads this week to Switzerland for the Eurovision song contest.
Larissa is part of the song-writing team behind Ireland’s entry, Laika Party, which is being sung by Norwegian singer Emmy.
Although excited for the experience, Larissa admitted she was also nervous — especially since Ireland is competing in the second semi-final, which features many of the favourites. Ten of the 16 songs from Thursday night’s semi-final will advance to Saturday’s grand final, joining the 10 already selected from the first semi-final.
The selection of entries for the grand final comes entirely from public votes.
Larissa travels out on Wednesday - and she is sure to cut a dash at the event: “Everything is silver — my dress, shoes, everything!” she says.
The Irish entry is described as a “very different” and “uplifting” track, one that stands out among the competition.
“It’s positive and classy,” says Larissa - “classy” being also the word she uses to describe singer, Emmy.
“She has a unique stage presence — she’s more understated than some of the other acts, which makes her memorable in her own way,” she says.
While she’s never been to Switzerland before, Larissa is embracing the experience with enthusiasm. “Whatever happens, I already feel like a winner. Our song made it to Eurovision. That’s huge.”
