Kilbeggan Shamrocks to honour IFC heroes of 2000

An evening of celebration is on the cards for the Kilbeggan Shamrocks GAA Club, who are holding a 25th Anniversary celebration at Kilbeggan Races on Friday May 16.

The event takes place in the marquee at the local meeting and with the first race due off at 4.50pm, a great evening's racing is promised at the local track.

Kilbeggan Shamrocks GAA Club will honour the successful Intermediate team of 2000, celebrating the 25th anniversary of their Peter Geraghty Cup success. It was a proud year for the club and they will be paying tribute to the heroes of that great victory at Friday’s gathering.

The feature race on Friday is the Winning Post Service Station Handicap Hurdle over three miles which is kindly sponsored by Pat Kelly. Also on the card is the Shanette Superior Space Handicap Steeplechase, which is kindly sponsored by Shanette Sheds Kilbeggan, and the Cookes Bar and Restaurant Caragh Beginners Steeplechase kindly sponsored by Kevin and Eamon Cooke.

Friday's Kilbeggan GAA reunion is also aimed at bringing the entire community together. This is a ticket only event for the marquee at a cost of €25 which includes access to the marquee live music by ‘Jiggers of Eireann’, free entry into a draw for All-Ireland hurling and football final tickets, as well as tickets for a draw to the Win a Home in Spain fundraiser for Westmeath GAA.

The fun and craic doesn't stop there as all patrons attending the Kilbeggan Gaa marquee will battle it out for the best dressed lady and gents competition which will be announced in the parade ring on the evening. With some legendary club names from the successful team of 2000 such as Aidan Gorry (scorer of 2-8 in the final against Ballymore), PJ Ward, Paul Daly, John Brennan, Dermot Smith, Keith Gorry and Philip Kieran, it promises to be a great evening.

Pat Flanagan, manager of that IFC winning side, will also be togging out in style on the evening and of course he subsequently enjoyed a great spell as Westmeath senior football manager. With connections all around the county, there is expected to be great interest in Friday’s reunion.
