Booklet to support upkeep of St Peter & Paul's Church

A booklet which encapsulates the history and architecture of St Peter & Paul's Church has been produced by local historian Pat Watson.

The eight-page publication, proceeds from the sales of which will go towards the future upkeep of the church, details the rich history and breathtaking beauty of this landmark in the heart of Athlone on the banks of the River Shannon. Author Pat Watson has encouraged the local public to purchase a booklet and help support the ongoing financial costs required for the maintenance of St Peter & Paul's Church.

"The booklet details 800 years of history and it is one which every household, east and west of the river should have, so that it can be passed on to their children for posterity," Pat said.

Pat paid tribute to Cllr Aengus O'Rourke and photographer Thomas Moore who assisted with the booklet's publication, 2,000 copies of which have been initially published. "We have produced 2,000 copies of the booklet but this can be increased if the need arises," Pat said. Priced at €5, the booklet is available to purchase daily from St Peter & Paul's Church, and also before and after Sunday mass at 12pm and can be paid for by cash or electronic means.
