One Westmeath footballer named on Tailteann Cup 'team of the week'

One Westmeath footballer has been named on the GAA.IE Tailteann Cup 'team of the week' following the second round of fixtures in the second-tier senior football championship competition.

Wing back Sam McCartan was recognised for his individual display during the Lake County's Group 3 victory over London in Ruislip on Sunday afternoon.

Despite a sluggish start to the contest, Westmeath emerged with a 13 point victory come the shrill of the final whistle, the ever impressive St Loman's clubman contributing five points to the scoreboard from his wing back berth.

Following on from their comprehensive opening round win over Antrim, this result places the 2022 Tailteann Cup winners in a strong position to advance to the knockout phase of the competition with a remaining group fixture against Limerick in O'Moore Park Portlaoise on Saturday, May 31.
