To take place from Saturday, May 31, to Monday, June 2, the family-friendly festival, sponsored by Shannon Academy, will feature a packed schedule of activities for cyclists of all ages and skill levels.

"Set against the backdrop of the scenic River Shannon and Old Rail Trail Greenway, Athlone Bike Fest is more than just a celebration of cycling, it's a community celebration that brings together outdoor adventure, local culture, and healthy living,” Athlone Bike Fest co-ordinator, Town Mayor Cllr Frankie Keena said.

"This family-friendly cycling festival invites children, parents and grandparents to enjoy a weekend in the heart of Ireland packed with bike rides, creative play, tasty food and live entertainment,"

Festival highlights include a charity spinathon at Athlone Regional Sports Centre in aid of Esker House Domestic Abuse Service on Saturday, May 31, from 9.30am.

On the same date Athlone GAA will host a 24-hour spinathon in Pairc Chiaráin, while Athlone Community Radio will broadcast from under the Canopy on Church Street.

There will be a cycle parade through Athlone on Sunday, June 1, while Monday, June 2, will see the hosting of bike skills and safety workshops with live music and local vendors displaying their wares on this date also.

Burgess Park is also the location for savage skills BMX stunts on June 2 with events to take place at 11.30am, 1.30pm and 3pm.

Over the course of Bike Fest there will also be vintage bike displays, a Celtic Art paintings market and a host of many more cycling-related events for all members of the family.

"Whether you're a seasoned cyclist, a curious beginner, or just looking for a great weekend out with the family, Athlone Bike Fest has something for everyone and if you don't have a bicycle that's no problem as Moby bike rental options will be available throughout the weekend,” Cllr Keena said.

"Whether your child has just ditched the stabilisers or you’re planning your first cycle as a family, Athlone Bike Fest offers a safe, welcoming space for every ability and age.

“Cycling is a fantastic way to explore Athlone and stay activ, and this festival is all about making it accessible, safe, and fun for everyone. We’re inviting locals and visitors alike to come together and celebrate the joy of cycling in our beautiful town," Cllr Keena added.
