Two arrested after drugs searches across five counties, including Westmeath and Offaly

Gardai arrested two men in their 30s and 40s yesterday (Thursday) in connection with a coordinated search operation targeting the sale and supply of drugs across five counties, including Westmeath and Offaly.

The searches under warrant took place in Westmeath, Offaly, Meath, Dublin and Clare, and resulted in Gardaí seizing €125,000 worth of cocaine, €168,000 worth of cannabis herb, and €41,600 worth of cannabis plants.

A Garda spokesperson said the drugs would be forwarded to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis.

A quantity of cash - €75,340 and £23,805 in sterling - was also seized during the operation, which was led by investigation teams in the Meath–Westmeath and Laois–Offaly Garda divisions, with support from the Garda Armed Support Unit, the Garda Stolen Motor Vehicle Investigation Unit, the Garda Dog Unit and Revenue's Customs Services.

Three vehicles were seized by Revenue’s Customs Services during the searches.

The Garda press office said a man in his 40s, who was arrested in Navan in connection with the search operation, was charged and appeared before Trim District Court yesteday, where he was remanded to appear again on June 3.

A second man, in his 30s, who was also arrested in Navan has since been charged and is due to appear at Trim District Court on June 17.

Gardai said the investigation was ongoing.
