Athlone Community Radio to host music marathon event this weekend
This is a busy week for Athlone Community Radio, which is hosting a fundraising table quiz on Thursday ahead of a May Music Marathon broadcast for the bank holiday weekend this Saturday.
The station's general knowledge table quiz takes place on Thursday, May 29, at 8pm in The Bounty, with well-known local singer Shanie Mac leading the fun.
Athlone Community Radio, a not-for-profit organisation, offers a welcoming space where individuals of all abilities are encouraged and trained in the art of radio broadcasting.
Funds raised during the table quiz will go towards creating more opportunities for community involvement, improving station facilities, and enhancing broadcast quality.
Expect a mix of trivia across all subjects, making it the perfect evening to test your knowledge.
This Saturday, May 31, meanwhile, the station hosts its May Music Marathon Broadcast, taking place from 7am to 7pm.
This special 12-hour event is a celebration of music, community, and the power of local radio, and will include an outside broadcast from the canopy at Church Street, Athlone, from 1pm to 5pm, featuring live performances by local musicians.
The May Music Marathon aims to support Athlone Community Radio’s ongoing development as a vital platform for local voices, creativity, and connection.
Broadcasting from the heart of the town, the station continues to provide opportunities for community members to tell their stories, showcase local talent, and stay informed and entertained.
As part of the fundraiser, listeners and supporters are invited to make a donation via the station’s GoFundMe page at: www.gofundme.com/acrdonate
Whether you're tuning in at home, stopping by the canopy to enjoy the live music, or supporting the station through sponsorship or donations, Athlone Community Radio is inviting everyone to be part of this celebration of local radio and community connection.
