New female course record at Athlone 10 mile race

Over 300 runners completed the hugely popular Athlone 10 mile in Clonown recently. The good weather brought the crowd and a new female course record was set by former Irish Olympian Breege Connolly who ran the race in a time of 59.52, with Monika De Almeida (Athlone AC) in second, and Katie McDonnell in third.

The men's races was won by Niall McGarry, from Finea, Co. Westmeath in 58.46, followed closely by Adam Courtney (Ferbane AC) and Shane Begley (Athenry AC).

The organising committee has thanked all the participants, sponsors, volunteers, Roscommon Civil Defence, Garda Siochana and the wider community for all their help and support in making it such a special day. All funds go to the development of Clonown Community Park.
