Athlone native completes 200th marathon in Cork
Completion of the Cork City marathon on Sunday afternoon proved to be a milestone sporting occasion for Athlone native, Philip Dunne.
A long time marathon participant at home and abroad, Philip completed his 200th 26.2 mile course in Cork in what he described as "very warm and humid" weather conditions.
A member of both the Athlone Tri Club and Athlone Athletics Club, Philip completed his first marathon in Barcelona in 2014 and since that date has ran similar distances in 12 different countries, including the 'Six Majors' - London, Berlin, New York, Boston, Chicago and Tokyo.
Athlone Athletics Club paid tribute to the marathon enthusiast describing Philip as an "inspiration", while Athlone Tri Club said his achievement was an "absolute testament to his grit, passion, and love for the sport".
