Experienced Lancaster appointed Connacht rugby head coach

Stuart Lancaster has been appointed to the role of Connacht rugby head coach.

The former England rugby head coach has signed a two year contract with the province having most recently served in a similar capacity with Racing 92 in France.

Lancaster was at the Racing 92 coaching helm in April when his charges defeated Connacht in the EPCR Challenge Cup quarter-final.

Prior to his time working in France, Lancaster enjoyed a successful seven-year spell as Leinster rugby senior coach during which time he played an integral management role in achieving four consecutive PRO14 titles and four Champions Cup finals.

Speaking on the Connacht Rugby website following his appointment Lancaster said he was "honoured and humbled" to be given the opportunity to lead the professional men’s team programme.

Lancaster will take up the role in time for the beginning of pre-season training in July, and will be formally presented to the media next month.
