The Connaught Street Market takes place on Sunday, June 8

Five things to do this week

There’s a local event to keep all family members entertained this week. Check out our list of recommendations and enjoy!

1.

Visit an art exhibition

Visit Luan Gallery where a new solo exhibition, VASSALDOMS UNITED, is on display to the public. Featuring newly commissioned work by Eimear Walshe, the featured art is concerned with places where the historic legacies and contemporary presence of empire are palpable through law, bureaucracy, infrastructure, land, and language. Entry to the exhibition which runs until June 22 is FREE.

2

Relive the Seeger Sessions

embrace the sounds of the Seeger Sessions Revival, a 13-piece band ‘reviving’ the spirit, energy and musical exuberance that was Bruce Springsteen’s Seeger Sessions album and live shows, in the Dean Crowe Theatre on Friday, June 6. Sit back and enjoy an evening of Traditional American Folk songs consisting of a Jambalaya of Bluegrass, Folk, Country, Dixieland, Gospel, Rock ‘N’ Roll and Rhythm & Blues.

3.

Experience primary school pupils' art

Why not visit the St Oliver Plunkett Boys National School Art Show on display in Tuar Ard Arts Centre Moate until Thursday, June 5? Featuring one piece of art from each pupil in the 93-student Moate primary school, the show marks the two year culmination of creativity from young and productive minds as part of the Creative Clusters scheme.

4.

Sample a street market

Venture to the west side of Athlone where the Connaught Street Market will take centre stage in Connaught Gardens on Sunday, June 8, from 12pm-4pm.

A family focused occasion, the fourth edition of the market will feature face-painting, local crafts and special guests, the adorable Old Town Alpacas.

5.

Enjoy traditional Irish music

Enjoy a celebration of Irish traditional music at Moate Trad Fest on Sunday, June 8. This vibrant event will celebrate culture, community spirit and local craftsmanship in the heart of Moate. Whether you are a long-time lover of trad or just looking for a lively way to spend your Sunday, this is the perfect event for all ages.

The festival will take place along Main Street from 1pm to 6pm, transforming the town into a hub of cultural celebration. In addition to the music, the event will feature an array of craft stalls showcasing local talent.
