A Cruinniú na nÓg fashion show will take place in the Athlone Castle courtyard this Saturday, June 7, at 3pm.

Cruinniú na nÓg events planned in Athlone and Moate

Cruinniú na nÓg, the national event described as a day of free creativity for children and young people, will take place this Saturday, June 7, and will be marked with a number of events locally.

Athlone Castle is to host a free Cruinniú na nÓg fashion show for children on Saturday at 3pm.

Entitled 'From Garden to Runway', the fashion show is a collaboration between Athlone Castle and Luan Gallery, and is presented with support from Creative Ireland and Westmeath County Council.

In recent weeks, Athlone Castle and Luan Gallery hosted costume-making workshops for local children focused on sustainability, and the costumes were inspired by the Historical Garden in the upper battlements of Athlone Castle.

Abbey Road Resident artists, Niamh Butler and Aoife Doolan, facilitated these workshops, with assistance from Transition Year students from Our Lady’s Bower, Athlone, who were involved in Junk Kouture.

The children who participated in the workshops will showcase their designs at the fashion show in the Athlone Castle courtyard on Saturday.

The event will also feature live performances by talented local youth musicians from the Féile na Sionainne festival, and special guest John McGlynn, Manager of The Deane Crowe Theatre, who will serve as compere and MC. Dún na Sí Amenity and Heritage Park in Moate will also be hosting a Cruinnú na nÓg celebration this Saturday.

With hands-on workshops, live performances, and interactive installations, the event promises a full day of discovery and fun for all attendees.

In Dún na Sí young people will be invited to step into the world of blacksmiths - witnessing a real working forge in action and learning about ancient crafts first-hand. It is a rare opportunity to connect with Ireland’s rich heritage through live demonstrations and interactive experiences that bring traditional skills to life.

Cruinnú na nÓg is a free event, but spaces are limited and booking is essential through www.dunnasi.ie

In South Roscommon, meanwhile, free Cyanotype Printing Workshops for kids and teens will be held in Moore Community Hall (N37 HT68) as part of the Cruinniú na nÓg event on Saturday.

This hands-on cyanotype printing workshop will introduce young creatives to a magical photographic printing process. Details are as follows.
