Fianna Fáil councillor Vinny McCormack is tipped to become the new Mayor of Athlone-Moate Municipal District when its AGM takes place in Athlone Civic Centre on Monday, June 9.

First elected to serve as a local representative in 2019, the Ballymore native is expected to replace outgoing 'first citizen' Cllr Frankie Keena and fill the role until June 2026.

McCormack, one of four Fianna Fáil Councillors elected to the Athlone-Moate Municipal District following the local elections in 2024, was previously elected to the role of Mayor in 2020.
