Streamstown pupils welcome MEP and win Blue Star award
Students and staff at Streamstown National School welcomed Maria Walsh, MEP, and Cllr Tom Farrell on Friday as the final part of their work towards earning our third Blue Star award, which we achieved on the day.
The award was the culmination of work carried out by the children in third to sixth classes, during the school year.
They had researched the 27 EU member countries and did projects about each of them, learned about the European Parliament and constructed their own version of the Eiffel Tower.
During her visit, Ms Walsh talked to the children about the European Parliament, the work of an MEP, and life in her beloved Mayo.
The children asked lots of questions, and treated their guest to set and figure dance performances, and a big sing along to ‘The Green and Red of Mayo’.
“We are sure we have some future politicians in our midst!” said teacher, Michaela Barrington.
