Thunderstorm warnings issued for Westmeath and Roscommon

Thunderstorms are set to sweep across the country overnight and well into tomorrow (Thursday), according to Met Éireann.

Yellow-level thunderstorm warnings have today been issued for most of the country, with a fourteen-hour warning set to come into effect for all of Leinster, including Westmeath.

This weather warning commences at midnight and will remain in place until 2pm on Thursday.

West of the Shannon, in Roscommon, a yellow-level thunderstorm warning will take effect later - from 7am until 5pm tomorrow.

Meteorologists regard the forecasting of thunderstorms as difficult, but Met Éireann said the areas under weather warnings were expected to see heavy showers and localised thunderstorms.

It said the possible impacts of the storms included spot flooding and lightning damage.
