A feast of Father's Day fun at Athlone Agri-Show on Sunday
Whether you fancy an afternoon of jiving on a real maple floor to the sounds of Robert Mizzell & Country Kings, listening to the best of trad music from the local branch of Comhaltas Ceoltoirí Éireann, or wandering through the well-stocked food and craft village, Athlone Agri-Show is the place to be this Sunday, June 15.
This year's date coincides with the annual celebration of fatherhood, Father's Day, which has prompted the organisers of the agricultural show to issue a special invitation to fathers across the Midlands to spend the day at the show with their families.
The 2025 Athlone Agri-Show takes place in the idyllic rural setting of Michael O'Donohoe's farm at Garnafailagh (Eircode: N37 V252) and with a special family ticket priced at €25 for two adults and three children under 12, it is the perfect way to celebrate Father's Day.
While predominantly an agricultural show, Athlone Agri-Show has evolved over the years to become a real family day out with something to suit all ages and all tastes. As well as showcasing top-class farm animals in the horse, cattle, and sheep sections, visitors can also see alpacas, pygmy goats, donkeys and poultry on display. One of the many novel aspects of this year's show is a gift of a freshly-laid duck egg and hen egg, which will be given to the first 50 families visiting the poultry exhibition!
Entries for the sheep classes have soared this year to almost 700 entries, making it one of the biggest sheep shows in the country, while there will also be lots for visitors to see and appreciate among the food, cookery, arts and crafts and photography exhibitions.
With full bar facilities and a beer garden, along with catering facilities, a dog show, a packed schedule of entertainment for adults and children alike, and a free shuttle bus service on the hour from Golden Island Shopping Centre to the showgrounds, provided by Rohan Transport, Athlone Agri-Show has everything.
Tickets can be purchased at the entrance to the show and range in price from €15 for adults; €10 for students (with student card) and OAP's; €25 for a family ticket for two adults and up to three children under 12. All under 12's are entitled to free admission when accompanied by an adult.
