Athlone GAA to host 'Streets of Athlone' fun run on Sunday
Athlone GAA Club will host a 'Streets of Athlone' 5km fun run/family run this Sunday (June 22) at 11am.
The weekend fundraising event is the latest of a number of initiatives organised by the club as it aims to remove the existing concrete seating and install a new wheelchair-accessible and family-friendly area looking out onto the main pitch at club's Pairc Chiaráin grounds.
Registration for Sunday's event takes place from 10am at the clubhouse on the Ballymahon Road. Participants will return to Pairc Chairáin, via the greenway and Garrycastle bridge, where breakfast rolls and refreshments will be served post-run.
Athlone GAA chairperson, Fiachra McLoughlin, is hoping the club can raise €50,000 towards the proposed development.
"We've had a number of successful fundraising events to date and hopefully, this weekend we will see a lot of club members taking part in our 'Streets of Athlone' fun run," Fiachra said.
"We really need to raise €50,000 towards the redevelopment of our concrete seating area. If we all pull together we will be able to give this area of our club grounds a new lease of life."
