Flick knife, bullets and smoke bomb seized by Revenue in Midlands operation

A smoke bomb, bullets, a flick knife, and a slingshot were among 40 weapons seized by Revenue in various operations across the Midlands over the past week.

The seizures were part of an overall Revenue operation which resulted in over €126,000 worth of contraband being seized in operations in Dublin and Rosslare Europort as well as in the Midlands.

The detections were made as as result of risk profiling and intelligence-led operations, and included tobacco products and alcohol with a combined estimated value of €6,800 which were seized in operations in the Midlands and at Rosslare.

The tobacco products seized, consisted of 5,000 cigarettes and almost 0.69kg of tobacco, had an estimated value of over €5,400, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of almost €4,300.

Nearly 78 litres of alcohol, consisting of wine, beer and spirits, had an estimated value of over €1,480, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of €915.

Investigations into all seizures are ongoing.

The seizures are part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting smuggling and shadow economy activity.
