Athlone Town women learn FAI Cup opponents as Champions League details finalised
Athlone Town have been drawn away to Peamount United in the quarter finals of this year's Sports Direct Women's FAI Cup.
The draw for the last-eight stage of the competition took place this afternoon (Tuesday).
Peamount are two-time cup winners, while Athlone have become 'cup specialists' of late, reaching the final in each of the last two years and lifting the trophy in 2023.
The quarter final ties will be played on the week ending Sunday, August 17.
Before then, Colin Fortune's charges will be in Champions League action for the first time.
It was confirmed this week that Athlone's Champions League clash with Cardiff City will kick off at 7.30pm on Wednesday, July 30.
It looks set to be the first of two women's Champions League fixtures to be held in the town in quick succession, with the club stating that the winner of the single-leg Athlone-Cardiff tie "will face ŽNK Agram (of Croatia) on August 2, at 4pm, in Athlone Town Stadium".
In their most recent game, Athlone claimed a comprehensive 6-0 win over Terenure Rangers in their Women's FAI Cup meeting last Saturday. Izzy Groves (two), Roisin Molloy, Kelly Brady, Natalie McNally and Hannah Waesch scored the Athlone goals.
This year's women's FAI Cup final will take place on Sunday, October 19, and will be broadcast live on TG4.
The next Women's Premier Division game for Athlone is away to Wexford on Saturday week, July 12 (kick-off 6pm).
