Machetes among items found in search of Coosan Cemetery

A garda search of Coosan Cemetery on Friday last, June 27, resulted in a cache of weapons being recovered, including machetes and sports equipment.

A statement from the Garda Press Office confirmed that Garda conducted a search of a Cemetery in Athlone, Co. Westmeath.

“A number of items were recovered during the course of the search, including machetes and sports equipment" said the garda statement, which added that "enquiries are ongoing."

The recovery of the weapons took place less than 48 hours ahead of the annual Cemetery Mass in Coosan Cemetery on Sunday afternoon last, June 29, at 3pm which attracted huge crowds of local and visiting families to the Athlone cemetery to honour the memory of their loved ones.
