Almost 90 Westmeath sport clubs to benefit from grant scheme
Westmeath County Council Sports Partnership has announced that 88 clubs will benefit from 2025 Club Grants Scheme.
The Sports Partnership said it was allocating a record amount of funding through the 2025 Club Grants Scheme.
Earlier this year, it invited clubs to apply for grants of up to €500 to boost their initiatives and events available to communities and members. The scheme is aimed at helping clubs and community groups attract new participants, boost engagement and provide essential sports equipment to get more people active. Clubs also had the opportunity to apply for vital startup gear like bibs, cones and training equipment.
Westmeath Sports Partnership said it is also committed to supporting the development of local talent and upskilling of volunteers, with funding available for coaching and referee courses accredited by Coaching Ireland or a National Governing Body of Sport. This ensures clubs all across County Westmeath have the skilled individuals they need to thrive and progress.
Thanking all the clubs who applied, the Sports Partnership explained that each application underwent a rigorous review process by a dedicated Club Grants sub-committee.
After several productive meetings, we’re delighted to confirm that 88 clubs have been approved for funding! A grand total of over €30,000 is now being distributed to support a fantastic range of inclusive and diverse sporting activities right across the county.
Speaking about the funding announcement, Anthony Wheat, Co-Ordinator of the Westmeath Sports Partnership, expressed his delight at the wide range of clubs and groups who submitted applications for the Club Grants Scheme.
“We are really happy to be able to provide this level of funding to sports clubs and community groups proving physical activity opportunities right around the county. There is a great passion in the Westmeath Sports Partnership to help and assist people to get active and stay active, we’re very happy to be able to support that through the Club Grants Scheme.“
