Athlone’s Luan Gallery launches summer exhibition ‘Soft Surge’

Luan Gallery’s summer exhibition Soft Surge was officially launched by Laura McCormack, Acting Arts Officer, Westmeath County Council, on Friday last.

Soft Surge is a group exhibition of existing and newly commissioned contemporary textile works exploring themes of identity, motherhood, women’s collectivity, grief, resistance, activism and sociopolitical dissent in Ireland.

Exhibiting artists include Shirani Bolle, Ursula Burke, Rachel Fallon, Dee Mulrooney, Lucy Peters, Emily Waszak and The Irish Names Project - Curated by Aoife Banks.

The Soft Surge exhibition runs until Sunday, September 7.

Luan Gallery also launched an exhibition of work by The Schoolhouse Quilters in the Boardwalk Gallery on Friday, June 27.

The Schoolhouse Quilters are a patchwork and quilting group based in Athlone. Comprised of 40 members, the group has been active for 30 years, with many original members still part of this tight-knit quilting community.

This exhibition runs until Sunday, July 27.
