Clonbrusk Childcare celebrated its 15th graduation ceremony in Viking style on Wednesday, June 18.
The boys and girls of Clonbrusk Childcare Centre graduation at an event in the beautiful community garden adjacent to the crèche, in a joyful and memorable day filled with celebration, music, and heartfelt moments.
The ceremony was a vibrant showcase of the children’s talents, featuring songs, dances, and the awarding of certificates of completion. Many of the graduating children, now aged five, had joined the centre when they were aged just one, making the occasion especially meaningful for their families and caregivers.
Adding a magical touch to the day was live music performed by Maeve Murphy on harp, Noel O'Farrell on guitar, and the Athlone Army Band, creating a remarkable atmosphere for all the parents, grandparents, and friends in attendance.
This year’s graduation featured a special Viking theme, inspired by Athlone’s River Festival. The children embraced the celebration, donning Viking hats and shields as they sang cheerful songs of the waterways. The festive spirit brought smiles all around and truly captured the essence of community celebration.
Marise Duncan reflected on the children's journey through Clonbrusk.
She spoke of their growth, courage, kindness, and unique personalities. With heartfelt words, she encouraged the children as they prepare to embark on their next adventure, thanking them for the joy they brought to the centre.
She also expressed deep appreciation to the parents, grandparents, and the Board of Management for their unwavering support.
Padraig Hegarty, Chairman of the Athlone River Festival and proud parent of graduate Robyn Hegarty, shared his thoughts: “When the idea of a river festival-themed ceremony came up, they didn’t have to ask me twice. The River Festival is about bringing our community together to celebrate our rich heritage here in Athlone.
"Clonbrusk is a remarkable service — the staff are incredibly supportive and caring. From the Wobbler Room to the Preschool room, the past four years have been filled with joy, growth, and countless new connections. On behalf of all the parents, we thank the staff and management for the wonderful service they provide.”
Head of Childcare Services Jenny Fletcher also took a moment to offer heartfelt thanks: “We are so grateful for the incredible support we received in making this year’s graduation such a special event. A sincere thank you to Padraig Hegarty, Chairman of the Athlone River Festival, for his enthusiasm and support.
"Thank you to Viking Mike for generously providing Viking Tour family passes, and to Carmel Duffy, Manager of Athlone Castle, for gifting family passes as well. A big thank-you to Monica at the Irish Wheelchair Association — our valued neighbour and friend — for her collaboration and support on the day. And of course, thank you to Athlone Sweets for the lovely treats that made our children’s day even more joyful.”
The day was a heart-warming celebration of not only the children’s achievements but also the community spirit that makes Clonbrusk Childcare Centre a cherished place for families.
