Tail of triumph as two local pups earn Nose of Tralee final spot

Two local pooches are paw-sitively over the moon as they have fetched a spot at the Nose of Tralee finals.

Roscommon Nose of Tralee finalist Bailey and Westmeath Nose of Tralee finalist Apollo have been selected as two of 32 finalists, after two rounds of public votes managed to throw a total of 1,550 competitors off their scent.

Now in its 12th year, dogs, cats and a goat have captured the hearts of the public with their stories, charm, and cuteness. Each finalist will now don their official County Nose Sash and re-enter the competition with a new photo and updated entry.

South Roscommon pooch Bailey is a 4 year old and is a Bichon Frise. His owner Ciara Kelly believes he would make a paw-some Nose of Tralee thanks to his lovable nature.

"Even on our toughest days, Bailey always brings a smile to our face. He is the most friendly and lovable dog.

"His favourite thing to do is show his love by licking your face. I really think that Bailey thinks he’s human because he loves to eat everything us humans eat. He loves doing stretches like yoga stretches. He is even better than us humans."

Athlone pup Apollo is a one and a half year old Collie Shepherd mix. His owner Amanda belives he would make an excellent Nose of Tralee thanks to his handsome face, soulful eyes, and gentle spirit.

"He brings light into every room he enters. He turns heads wherever he goes and everyone loves him and his unique eyes," Amanda said.

"But more than anything, Apollo has helped me through some of my toughest times especially with my anxiety and mental health. His calm presence, intuition, and endless love have been a source of strength and comfort when I needed it most."

Finalists will have until July 20 to submit their updated entry before the final public voting stage opens on July 24.

The 2025 Nose of Tralee winner will be crowned on August 19, following a nationwide vote to determine who will take home the title.

The winner will receive a hotel stay, a photo shoot, pet sitting vouchers, and a range of gifts from small Irish Pet Brands.
