Loughlin tops Tailteann Cup scoring charts
While the Westmeath senior football team exited the Tailteann Cup at the quarter final stage of this year's championship, Luke Loughlin claimed a singular honour for the county when claiming the 'top scorer' accolade.
The Down's sharpshooter scored 2-41 (47 points) in five Tailteann Cup encounters, amassing 1-17 in the county's comprehensive opening round robin victory over Antrim in TEG Cusack Park Mullingar in June.
St Loman's club player Sam McCartan also featured in the Tailteann Cup top scorers charts, placing in joint seventh position with 2-19 (25 points) accumulated from the five games played in the competition.
Both players are certain to feature prominently for their respective clubs when the Shay Murtagh Westmeath Senior Football Championship commences in two weeks.
Reigning champions St Lomans will play Athlone in a Section A Round 1 fixture in TEG Cusack Park Mullingar on Saturday, July 26 (throw-in, 5pm), while defeated 2024 finalists, The Downs play Coralstown-Kinnegad, also in a Section A game, at the same venue later that evening (throw-in, 7pm).
