Local homelessness charity launches 'Step Up for Simon' fundraising challenge
Local charity the Midlands Simon Community has launched a summer fundraising challenge designed to raise vital funds for people experiencing homelessness across Laois, Offaly, Westmeath, and Longford.
The 'Step Up for Simon' challenge is encouraging people of all ages to walk 15,000 steps a day for 15 days during July or August, at their own pace, in their own time, while raising money for a cause that's close to home.
"This is a simple but powerful way to get involved," said Moate's Michael O'Brien, fundraising officer with Midlands Simon Community.
"Whether you're walking greenways, parks, your local town or just getting your steps in throughout the day, you're helping people in our own communities to find hope, safety and support."
The challenge is free to join, and prizes will be awarded to the top fundraisers in each of the four counties.
Participants can sign up by creating their own fundraising page at iDonate.ie/stepupforsimon, where they can track their progress and share updates with friends and family.
The Midlands Simon Community said all of the funds raised will go directly towards the provision of essential services including outreach support, emergency accommodation, and long-term housing assistance for individuals and families facing homelessness in the Midlands.
