More than 30 new apartments planned for Athlone’s Abbey Road
A planning application is expected to be submitted to Westmeath County Council shortly for a 35-unit apartment development at Abbey Road in Athlone.
The proposed project would be situated at "Number 6 & 7 Abbey Road, Coosan" and is being planned by Galetech Sustainable Living, part of Galetech Group, a Cavan-based renewable energy company.
Gaeltech Sustainable Living outlined details of the planned housing in correspondence with local representatives, and also said it would be calling to residents in the locality to discuss the development with them.
The developer said the "carefully planned" project would create "modern, own-door access homes, designed with a mix of one and two-bedroom layouts to meet the needs of a diverse range of homeowners".
It added: "Located just minutes from Athlone town centre, this development offers residents the perfect balance of convenience, comfort and environmental consciousness.
"The homes will include energy-saving features, contemporary finishes, and access to shared green space."
The housing would be built on a site of 0.4577 hectares and would include the provision of 35 parking spaces.
A company representative indicated that it intends to submit its planning application to the council for the development before the end of this month.
