Ox Mountain Quartet to perform at Athlone Féile launch this evening
Athlone's Féile na Sionainne festival, which takes place over the August Bank Holiday weekend, will be officially launched this evening (Friday, July 25) at 7pm in The Venue, Church Street, Athlone.
Performing on the night will be Ox Mountain Quartet, a group hailing from Mayo and Sligo who blend an eccentric mix of old and new.
Siobhan O'Donnell on vocals and bodhran is an All-Ireland champion and highly sought-after teacher, coming from a family steeped in music and song. She brings a wealth of traditional songs learned from her father and mixes them with some contemporary and folk classics.
Brothers David and Patrick Doocey on guitar and fiddle, originally from Boston, now living in Mayo, have stamped their mark on the scene over the past 10 years performing with some of the top artists in the industry such as Lunasa, Sean Keane, Sharon Shannon, Teada and many more.
Stephen Doherty is a multi-instrumentalist from Foxford, playing flute, accordion and whistles. Stephen has toured over 25 countries with a vast range of productions and performs regularly with The Sean Keane Band as well as regular performances on both national television and radio.
He is a multi-All Ireland champion and has composed a large repertoire of tunes.
Entry to the launch event is free, with a donation box on the door to assist with the running costs of the festival.
