Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment and Longford/Westmeath Fine Gael TD, Peter Burke, has urged Westmeath families to check their passport expiry dates prior to travelling abroad this summer.

Overseas travel continues to boom in Westmeath

Almost 6,000 passports issued to the county so far this year

Overseas travel continues to boom in Westmeath, withy 5,823 new passports issued to individuals across the county already this year, according to Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Peter Burke.

Deputy Burke revealed the new passport figures for Westmeath in a press statement which he issued today (|Monday) urging families to check their passport expiry dates before travelling and to apply early if renewal is needed, preferably via Passport Online.

“It’s incredible to see that 5,823 passports have already been issued for Westmeath this year and over 600,000 have been issued nationwide,” said Minister Burke.

“Anyone planning on travelling in the next few weeks should check their passport now and, if needed, apply for renewal online well ahead of their departure date.

“The best time to check your passport is before you book a holiday – but if you’ve already booked, it’s vital to confirm your passport is in date.

“Passport Online is the quickest, easiest and most cost-effective way to apply. I’d encourage everyone to use this service where possible.”

Minister Burke also thanked the staff at the Passport Service for their continued work in processing a high volume of applications, particularly during the busy summer period.

“I’d also like to remind anyone who needs to renew their passport urgently that the Urgent Appointment Service is available at the Passport Offices in Dublin and Cork.
