Roscommon civic honour proposed for Darragh Murray after first Ireland cap
by David Flynn
The achievement of Brideswell's Darragh Murray in securing his first senior cap with the Irish rugby team looks set to be celebrated with a civic reception from Roscommon County Council.
The local 24-year-old, who came through the ranks at Buccaneers RFC and currently stars for Connacht Rugby, made his first appearance for the Irish senior side in a test match against Georgia in Tbilisi earlier this month.
At last week's meeting of the Athlone Municipal District in Roscommon, Curraghboy's Cllr Tony Ward proposed that a civic reception to honour Darragh Murray's achievement be hosted by the local authority. This was seconded by Cllr Valerie Duffy.
Also at the meeting, Cllr John Keogh proposed a civic reception to honour the Under-13 Drum/Clonown/Monksland chess team, because of their recent win at the Community Games National Finals in Kilkenny. This request was seconded by Cllr Laurence Fallon.
