Health and safety certificates presented at Athlone event

The Midland branch of the National Irish Safety Organisation (NISO) held its presentation of certificates for 'Introduction to Occupational Health and Safety' courses in the Sheraton Hotel, Athlone, on Friday, June 20.

Two courses were hosted by TUS Athlone, between September and December last, and again between February and May of this year.

Local people who successfully completed the course included; Shane Nolan (Athlone Training Centre, Garrycastle), Tony Dockery (Ward and Burke, Athlone, and Dysart, Roscommon), Suman Chaulagain (St Bridget’s Terrace, Athlone) and Pawel Wasiak (Sheraton Hotel and The Glen, Coosan).

A total of 20 participants successfully completed the course. These included people from Westmeath, Offaly, Galway, Clare, Longford, Roscommon, Kildare, Meath, Louth and Tipperary.

Each participant received their certificate from Minister of State Kevin 'Boxer' Moran. There were two separate presentations to Lisa Sweeney (TUS Nursing Lecturer), who is stepping back from lecturing on the course, and to Charlene Fitzpatrick who accepted a set of Bog Oak pieces on behalf of the BNM Quiz team who won the National Safety Quiz competition held in Mullingar Park hotel recently.

The NISO Cert course will run again this autumn, beginning in mid-September in TUS Athlone. A number of the participants are advancing onto the part-time Level 7 degree in EHS Management in the autumn in TUS.
