Fortune bolsters squad as Athlone Town women maintain season focus
As Athlone Town bask in the momentary glow of their UEFA Women's Champions League success to date, team manager Colin Fortune has bolstered his squad with two new signings.
With the club competing for honours in three competitions, Fortune has added two midfield players to his squad with the signings of German Katherina 'Kat' Oelschlaeger and the US born Alexis Strickland.
After the jubilatory scenes in Lissywollen on Saturday evening, Athlone Town return to League of Ireland Premier Division action this Saturday when they play Bohemians in Dalymount Park on Saturday afternoon.
Fortune's charges sit in second place on the league table on goal difference following Shelbourne's win over Cork City at the weekend.
They then travel to Greenogue Park on Saturday, August 16, when they will play Peamount United in a Sports Direct FAI Cup quarter final tie before a return to Athlone Town Stadium on Saturday, August 23, and a crucial 'top of the table' clash against Shelbourne.
The management and player's minds will then turn to matters Champions League and a trip to the Netherlands for their second-round clash with Icelandic champions Breidablik.
Should they defeat their Icelandic opponents, Athlone Town will play either FC Twente or Red Star Belgrade with a place in Round 3 qualifying up awaiting the mini tournament winners.
