"New beginnings" as Lough Ree Inn reopens under new owners

The Lough Ree Inn at Coosan Point in Athlone reopened over the Bank Holiday weekend under new owners.

The popular lakeside pub was put up for sale in October 2023.

Minister Kevin ‘Boxer’ Moran was the esteemed honorary guest at the event, and cut the ribbon on the latest chapter of the beloved local pub.

In a statement posted to their social media, the new Lough Ree Inn owners wrote: "After too long without a true gathering place at the heart of our community, it’s a joy to say that the long-lost local is finally back in business.

"This marks more than just the return of a pub—it’s the revival of a space where stories are shared, friendships are made, and memories are created.

"We’re proud to open the doors once again and grateful to everyone who helped bring this vision to life—starting with Minister Moran for helping us mark this special occasion in style. Here’s to new beginnings and old traditions—welcome back to your local!"
